Currently, our country society of the electric bicycle owns over 3,000,000 sets, adopting the lead acid battery basically, now lead acid battery is used for the 36V/10Ah mold, with 360 Wh total energy, 12 kg¨s weight, can be used to drive 50km, under 100% circumstance of DOD, its cycle life is only about 100 times, each battery price is about 32 USD, the service life is only 6-12 months. In many cities electric bicycle is banned to be on road, the main reason is huge pollution produced by lead acid battery. If LiFePO4 material can be adopted as anode to make 10Ah battery, it requires 12 battery pieces as series in a whole pack. The whole mold is only 3-4 kg¨s weight, if it can be made 5 kg¨s weight, the motorcycle can travel over 80 km¨s far.

There are three types of lithium ion cells based on different cathode materials. They are lithium cobalt oxide, lithium manganese oxide and lithium iron phosphate types. Although lithium cobalt oxide cell owns the advantage of high energy density, it is suffered by the safety concerns. Lithium manganese oxide cell has been evaluated for the application on high rate due to the better safety characteristics. However, its high temperature performance is the major drawback.
